AFCON 2015, not as heart pulsating as previous editions…


A week to go to the 30th edition of the Orange African Cup Of Nations and football lovers don’t seem amassed as in previous years. There are no the usual reminders through the media about the football extravaganza that showcases pure and raw talent across the Dark Continent. Is there anywhere that fault lies? My answer is both yes and no.

Most football fans still have the World Cup hangover. Some are not into it because the game has been notched up a generation. This is what I mean, there will be no Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o, Alex Song, Demba Ba and some few more. Another reason is the ever growing list of fresh injuries to exciting new players. Take an example of Southampton’s winger Saido Mane. After impressing in his first season in England, many would have wanted to see whether his star shines as bright for Senegal. His back injury…
